COZY BEDROOMS

The place where you unplug your mind and allow yourself to rest should be curated, and most important relaxed.

Here are the things essentials to me to create a welcoming bedroom to love, and that will make you want to fly into Morpheus arms dreaming.

-       Layering lighting.

No matter what colour scheme or style you are going for, proper lighting is key.

Ideally, you’d have windows to allow natural light during the day, but it’s at night time that you want to create a welcoming vibe that invites you to relax, and unwind.

Have a warm and indirect ceiling light, and place bedside table lamps essential for reading and convenience as you move into bed.

Wall lamps also work, you just want to make sure the height is set right for the light to be strong enough for reading, but not directed to you.

-       Textile

I love cotton and linen sheets, and I prefer neutral and warm tones for the bed, playing with cushions to add patterns and more textures.

I must swim against the current here and say something about cushions though: please DO NOT hit them in the middle, just please don’t.

Lay them down horizontally instead for a natural and relaxed vibe, and they will do the rest.

-       Rug

Not only for the overall softness and visual interest it brings to the space, but also for the comfort it provides when you wake up and put your feet on the ground.

BUT THERE’S MORE

-       I love to add a special touch with the bedhead. I particularly love curves, and I prefer upholstered bedheads to add more texture and softness.

-       If there’s space for it I also love having an arm chair – ideally to create a little cosy nook, realistically to leave the clothes not allowed in the wardrobe but not really ready for washing – It’s personal, and can even become a statement piece in the room.

-       Benches can be not only aesthetically appealing and refining the area, but they are also a pretty good storage option unless you use for a purely decorative purpose.

-       Cushions favourite shapes for bed is rectangular, round or cylinder. I cannot stand hitting cushions in the middle – sorry fellow designers and stylists, but that’s me – They feel structured and unnatural, while I prefer a more casual and relaxed vibe, and I like to be welcomed into spaces.

-       Curtains

Make sure you have some block out blinds

There aren’t only ‘fugly’ things on the market. You can have them custom made and personalised or simply place them behind sheer curtains to have the option of pulling them down at nighttime, leaving you with a more sophisticated look during the day.

How’s your bedroom feeling at the moment?
